Rent or Buy Ski Helmet

It is possible to rent a ski helmet in most areas. Yet it is good to consider the following when renting or buying a ski helmet. Renting a ski helmet is primarily for children. A major disadvantage of helmet renting is that it needs to be replaced after the impact of a hard blow, even though damage may not be visible on the outside. A damaged helmet can no longer be considered safe. In all approved (EN 1077) ski helmets this is stated on the warning label inside the helmet. When renting a helmet you may not be aware of its state and you will not know whether this will provide sufficient protection to your or your child's head.

An advantage of renting is that the entire purchase price does not have to be paid immediately. Also, for people who would prefer to test the helmet first, it may be an advantage. The advantages of buying a ski helmet are that you always know what you buy and you know the ‘history’ of the helmet. This provides certainty about the quality of the material. In addition, you can not be sure the rental has an appropriate helmet for you.

There are many reasons not to wear a helmet while skiing, but they do not weigh against the benefits.  It is always better to be well protected and prepared when you go onto the slopes.
